Bar is to the left as is the bottom of the stairs entrance. Nice little area at far end with a few tables just past the toilets.
Still in the process of booting up. Beers are on and very good. Needs some personal touches to liven up the space.

The Vale

On the day after the Vale announced they were going to be taking a 4 year vacation starting May 1st i thought i should make one of these increasingly rare photos for this blog. The break is apparently due to the Queen St redevelopment work, that after the current tunnel work, will impact Dundas street and the businesses there.
I wonder what will happen to Dows.

WEST Brewery took over the Halt in the middle of 2014 . A guid stoor cleaning and painting left what was called a short term pop up bar
The larger changes started just before Christmas and it has taken till May 9th for the new place to reopen.
It has been a dramatic change.

( NB they were preparing for a formal vendors opening later hence the unusual parts in the photos . They also had some real photographers in who werent quite sure who i was :) )
The previous Halt exterior was removed exposing the previous colours and signs.
Interesting that there are bar stools as a lot of places don't seem to encourage sitting at the bar anymore.
I like the space but , as with my on going interest in bar tables dont like the tables and chairs. Having the lights fixed and hanging low restricts changes and table configurations that can be made.

A dramatic reworking of Mills Bar. Bright and interesting.

These are my favorite types of tables in a bar. Better than booths. High finger tables from the walls.High tables round the outside lower tables in the middle if needed. Big rounded end and same height as bar.

Very different from Captains Rest . Where i am seated is basically where the bar was.
Way more open and brighter. This is not the most interesting view but typical new bar opening tweaking and fixing was going on, the bar itself is great looking with a large white tiled back. Reminds me quite a bit of Jacksons and Dukes. You can see Wintersgills directly across Great Western Road. I am intrigued to see how well it operates at this end of Great Western Road with few offices for a lunch time crowd and Wintersgills and Roxy 171 so nearby. Additionally Maclays has two other similar places ( Dram and Landsdowne ) close by and they may split the trade rather than grow it.
Good burger ( meat fine, but as with everywhere in Glasgow bun is not as good as it could be. Why is that top not the same size as the bottom :-) its not a muffin ). You know its a new kitchen because all the condiments are fresh and unused :-)
