WEST Brewery took over the Halt in the middle of 2014 . A guid stoor cleaning and painting left what was called a short term pop up bar
The larger changes started just before Christmas and it has taken till May 9th for the new place to reopen.
It has been a dramatic change.

( NB they were preparing for a formal vendors opening later hence the unusual parts in the photos . They also had some real photographers in who werent quite sure who i was :) )
The previous Halt exterior was removed exposing the previous colours and signs.
Interesting that there are bar stools as a lot of places don't seem to encourage sitting at the bar anymore.
I like the space but , as with my on going interest in bar tables dont like the tables and chairs. Having the lights fixed and hanging low restricts changes and table configurations that can be made.
The bane of Glasgow tenement pubs, how to disguise the supports if they end up in the middle of the floor.

Old Halt, New WEST
( More Old Signs )
As the formal change takes place with the Halt truly becoming WEST on the Corner it has , fleetingly, uncovered the old exterior. This is going to go very soon as the windows are extended. One of the larger windows is already in place on the Park St side.
I had a chance to look inside and , with the new floor in place, opens up to a different but nice and large clear space. Except of course the "curse" of all similar Glasgow bars , what to do about the roof supports that always end up in the most inconvenient place.
UPDATE: Following week
Another different font sign can just about be made out on the front view
UPDATE: May 2nd ( opens May 9th )

Every Bar on Argyle St 1890 's vs 2010's
A while ago i had made a subsection map of the Gorbals/Laurieston/Tradeston area from a similar period showing the concentration of bars. I wanted to do a similar diagram contrasting a larger area of Glasgow. What would become Argyle street seemed like an appropriate choice.
St Enoch in 1890's is a train station in the 2010's it is a shopping centre.
1890's marks are for public houses which i take as being distinct from restaurants and other forms of services but makes exact comparisons impossible. The riverside is very distinct without having to be explicitly drawn.
